PLAY
2023
Brighton based Vincent Dance Theatre is renowned for creating powerful new productions that translate lived experience into performance on stage and on film, involving young people at every stage of the creative process.
Working in partnership with local and regional organisations, our new project PLAY offers a unique opportunity for young people to get involved with the company’s work, meet new friends, learn new skills and get creative.
If you work with young people age 11-17, we’d love to hear from you!
From March – August 2023, VDT will lead workshops with groups that build confidence, promote curiosity, encourage participants to have their say and create their own work using performance and movement techniques, spoken word and song.
Ideas generated in our workshops will contribute towards VDT’s new live production, PLAY, the company’s first ever work performed solely by young people. PLAY offers a public platform for young people to be seen and heard, and share their ideas about what it’s like growing up today. PLAY will be performed live in autumn 2023 (exact date yet to be announced). This is a paid opportunity, as part of VDT’s ongoing commitment to provide early professional performing arts experience for young people.
The duration, timing and bespoke content of workshops will be designed to meet your groups needs. Participants need no previous experience in movement, theatre or dance, but if they have some, great!
To find out more about the project or to book a workshop / series of workshops, please contact VDT’s General Manager Holly Morris: holly@vincentdt.com or 01273 911616.
Alongside free creative workshops, VDT will also be facilitating a Performance Summer School from 14-18 August 2023 in Brighton, with free places available for young people in receipt of free school meals.
VDT actively promotes equality of opportunity and includes care-experienced young people in all of our projects. VDT’s creative practice is attachment aware and trauma informed and our stringent Safeguarding Policy ensures best practice. Charlotte Vincent and her team are experienced facilitator/practitioners and DBS checked. Charlotte is also a Mental Health First Aider and VDT’s Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
PLAY is commissioned by Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival.
