Rachel Krische

Rachel Krische graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 1992. Since then she has toured extensively and internationally with over 20 different companies/artists including Aletta Collins, Bedlam, Adventures in Motion Pictures, Victoria Marks, La Ribot, h2 Dance, Colin Poole, Akram Khan, Johnathan Lunn, Wendy Houtoun and Deborah Hay. In 2002 she won the Jerwood Choreography Award with Ben Wright and formed Krische/Wright Company from this creative alliance. She has taught contemporary dance internationally for the past ten years to professionals, vocational students and non-professional dancers. She qualified as a yoga teacher in 2000 in the Scaravelli approach to yoga practice. Rachel has been rehearsal director for Bare Bones, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Henri Oguike Dance Company and Jonathan Lunn. Rachel’s first collaboration with Vincent Dance Theatre was Chthonian Pleasures in 1996. She rejoined the company in 2007 to tour Punch Drunk and Broken Chords. Most recently Rachel performed the Deborah Hay solo The Swimmer which was part of Dance Umbrella 2008 and the solo Lap Dancer for Aletta Collins for The Place Prize 2008. She is now a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Performing Arts at Leeds Metropolitan University and joins VDT’s Board of Directors in 2010.
Based in London for 20 years, Rachel became a prominent figure on the independent contemporary dance scene before moving to Yorkshire in 2008. She now leads the BA Dance programme at Leeds Metropolitan University and was previously Head of Performance at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
She has an artistically diverse and eclectic career, and combines her work in higher education with her artistic practice, collaborating and performing both nationally and internationally.
