Phil received training in his native Yorkshire between Barnsley College: Electric Theatre and The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) where he worked with many choreographers such as Fin Walker, Hofesh Schector, Kim Brandstrup and Janet Smith.

Upon completion of a postgraduate study he worked on a project basis for Slanjayvah Danza and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and then joined Phoenix Dance Theatre where he stayed from 2009 to 2014.

His professional career, now spanning 15 years, has ventured into many forms of dance and movement research such as Martial Arts, Burlesque & Cabaret, Tango and Butoh and includes performances of work by Robert Cohan, Philip Taylor, Charlotte Vincent, Richard Alston, Aletta Collins, Rui Horta and Douglas Thorpe to name but a few. Television Credits include performance and choreographic assistance in BBC Three’s ‘Frankensteins Wedding’, and performance in the forth-coming BBC mini-series ‘Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell’.

Since 2008 Phil has received regular support from Arts Council England to develop his own choreographic practice and with additional support from VDTProduces Phil recently co-founded – with fellow collegues; Azzurra Ardovini and Josh Wille – The Ashes, Dance Collective. The Ashes aim to create a free, artistic environment where ideas can flow and develop without pressure on the final product whilst enhancing the feeling of experimenting and sharing amongst the three artists. The Ashes’ vision is to reach wider, alternative audiences and support the growth of contemporary dance.

Phil also teaches contemporary technique and lectures in associated subjects. He has visited – as a guest teacher – Phoenix Dance Theatre, Balbir Singh Dance Company, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Yorkshire Dance, Renaissance Arts, Centre of Advanced Training (CAT) in Leeds, Manchester & Ipswich, The Place. Royal Ballet School and Leeds College of Music.
